1908 Hart Parr
This tractor is one of the "Old Reliable" model 30-60's built by Hart Parr in
1908. The 30-60 series was built from 1907 to 1918 at the Hart Parr factory in
Charles City, Iowa. The tractor was designated a 30-60 since it is rated for 30
horsepower at the drawbar and 60 horsepower at the belt. It weighs about 20,100
pounds and is about 200 inches long. The two cylinder engine was designed to run on
kerosene and has a displacement of 2356 cubic inches. It runs at 300 RPM and
needs 200 quarts of coolant to maintain a reasonable operating temperature.
Charles Hart and Charles Parr were engineering students at the University of
Wisconsin in the late 1800's and founded the Hart Parr company in 1901. The
model 30-60 was only the 3rd model of tractor built by Hart Parr and this
particular one with serial number 1856 was one of the earlier ones manufactured
in 1908. It is quite likely that this is the oldest tractor in Alberta.
